Agriculture, with its allied sectors, is unquestionably the largest livelihood provider in India, more so in the vast rural areas. It also contributes a significant figure to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Sustainable agriculture, in terms of food security, rural employment, and environmentally sustainable technologies such as soil conservation, sustainable natural resource management and biodiversity protection, are essential for holistic rural development.
Himachal Pradesh is a hilly state with a prominent agro sector but the decreasing size of farms and dependency upon rain water is making farmers life harder. Most farmers are not capable to earn a descent amount exclusively from farming.
PLAN Foundation has launched “Lab to Land” program with help of Agriculture Department and Private Sector.

Objectives:
1. Promotion of scientific approach in farming.
2. Promotion of low cost technology.
3. Promotion of new package of practice in farming sector.
4. Demonstration of technology and new varieties of seeds, equipments etc.

How we work:
PLAN Foundation in association with Agriculture Department and Private Sector, adopt a village and selects farmer groups for intervention. The intervention is called “Farm School”. We conduct need assessment study of the area and design a strategy with our farming specialists and scientists from universities. Our scientists and specialists provide complete support to the farmers at village level during a complete crop cycle. We promote hybrid seeds to increase production and proper practices recommended by Universities. After crop harvesting, evaluation study through the farmers is conducted to promote them to adopt the demonstrated techniques.
